Itinerary

Day 1 :
Arrival in Kathmandu (1350m) and transfer to Hotel

Welcome to Kathmandu, Nepal. Himalayan Trip representatives will be waiting for you at the arrival section of Tribhuvan International Airport. You will be greeted and taken to the hotel. Enjoy your evening resting or strolling around the nearest markets.

Day 2 :
Kathmandu Sightseeing and trek Preparation

The Kathmandu valley has one of the densest concentrations of heritage sites. The Kathmandu city alone holds four heritage sites that are listed under the UNESCO World Heritage Sites List. The tour will start late in the morning and you will visit the heritage sites of the city that includes the Temple of Pashupatinath, the Bouddhanath Stupa, the Swayambhunath Temple and the Kathmandu Durbar Square.

Kathmandu to Lukla 2840m by Flight then trek to Phakding 2610m (3/4 hours)

Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche 3860m (4/5 hours)
Day 7 :
Mani Rimdu festival at Tengboche Monastery. Wang - blessing ceremony.
Day 8 :
Second day at the festival. Witness the Cham - mask dance.
Day 9 :
Third day at the festival. Witness the Jinsak - closing ceremony

Trek from Tengboche to Namche 3440m (4/5 hours)

Trek from Namche to Lukla 2840m (6/7 hours)
Day 12 :
Lukla to Kathmandu by flight (45min)
Day 13 :
Rest Day in Kathmandu

Final departure. Nepal: once is not enough

How is mani rimdu celebrated?

Mani Rimdu is generally celebrated by Sherpa in autumn at the Tengboche Monastery in the Everest region. Lamas and Sherpa gather at the monastery for five days. They gather for the welfare of the world. There are plays, masked dances, prayers and feasts.

What is the history of Mani Rimdu festival?

Mani Rimdu is a traditional festival passed on from the mother monastery of Tengboche monastery, the Rongbuk. The festival is a re-creation of legendary events; the establishment of Buddhism in Tibet by the great saint, Guru Rimpoche/Padmasambhava.

When is Mani Rimdu Festival in the year 2020?

Mani Rimdu festival is held during the tenth lunar month as per the Tibetan calendar, which usually falls in the month of October-November. The festival falls on the autumn season, a season when large number of tourists visit Khumbu region to trek to Everest Base Camp. The head lama of Tengboche monastery announces the dates of the festival. In 2020, the festival falls during November in 17th, 18th, and 19th respectively.

What about battery charging and hot shower facilities?

Yes, you can charge batteries en route. Charger should be brought. There are hot shower facilities as well. You may have to pay certain amount for both ($1-$2). Negotiate. Also, hot water facility could be free at lower elevation.

Are there ATMs on the way to Annapurna Base Camp?

No. There are no ATMs on this trek route. You will have to draw enough cash in Pokhara or Kathmandu. There are a number of ATMs in these cities. Everything is paid in Nepali rupees. So money should be exchanged before the start of the trek.

What about internet access?

Yes. Internet can be accessed in most places. Sometimes, there might be some technical problems. Internet in Nepal is not as fast as you are used to and at times you can just lose connection.

Is it necessary to hire Guides/trekking agency for Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

Not really. It depends on you. If you want, ABC trekking can be done independently. You could hire a guide and a porter by yourself instead of going through an agency or not hire a guide at all. Although, not having a guide can be a little problematic during off season.

It really depends on you. Is it your first time in Nepal? How confident are you of being able to find your way around? How pressed on time are you? If you go through an agency, it will be costlier but everything will be planned. You will only have to come, trek and return.

How much do guides and porters cost?

For Annapurna region, pay for guides range from $20 to $30 per day and porters take $15 to $25 per day.
