Muktinath Temple is located 24 km northeast direction from Jomsom. 200 km from Pokhara and 406 km from Kathmandu in Mustang District, Annapurna Conservation Area of Nepal. Muktinath is a highly venerated sacred place for both Hindus and Buddhists. Situated at an altitude of 3,710 meters (12,172 feet) at the base of the Thorong La mountain pass in the Mustang district.

Not too far from Jomsom you find Muktinath, the famous pilgrimage site for Buddhists as well as Hindus. To Hindus, Muktinath is a sacred place of salvation. They believe that bathing in the waters here guarantees salvation after death. Hindu believes that lord Vishnu got salvation from curse of Brinda (wife of Jalandhar) here. After breakfast, we will drive to Pokhara. Pokhara is situated about 200 km west of the capital Kathmandu and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Nepal and second most populous city in the country. Due to its proximity to the Annapurna mountain range the city is also a base for trekkers undertaking many short or long treks. The serene of lakes and the magnificence of the Himalayas rising behind them makes Pokhara an ambiance of peace and magic.

Today after breakfast in the hotel in Pokhara we drive to Pokhara domestic airport for flight to Jomsom. After landing in Jomsom airport, we take a shared jeep to Muktinath. We get down from jeep and walk for about 30 minutes to reach Muktinath temple-a place for salvation, which is at an altitude of 3,800 meters above sea level. There are 108 holy water spouts in the temple premises where we take bath and worship in the temple. Later we take a jeep drive back to Jomsom for overnight stay.If time permits we can visit the Marpha Apple farm or look for Saligram stones at the river bank.

Early morning we have breakfast and fly from Jomsom airport to Pokhara. If the flight is on time and does not get disrupted due to bad weather conditions, you will have time for visiting Taal Barahi Temple in Fewa Lake where we go by boating, Bindhyabasini temple, Lord Shiva Cave and Davis Falls

After breakfast in the hotel we drive along river banks with wonderful views of hills and the rural Nepalese life. We spend our last evening in Kathmandu in a farewell dinner together sharing photos recalling the excitements of trip and exchanging emails in one of the traditional Nepalese restaurant.

Today after breakfast you are in leisure on your own. You will be escorted to airport for your flight home at your flight time.

Is there any risk of altitude sickness?

Since Muktinath is located at high altitude (3710m), one-night acclimatization at Jomsom is required before heading to the Temple. There is not any record that people got altitude sickness during ‘Muktinath Tour’ but it is always better to consult with your doctor first. In case of emergency, helicopter services are available to rescue.

What should I carry during Muktinath Tour?

Normal things as you carry for other tours. Wind Sitter will always be the best idea to carry to cheat the windy Jomsom. If you are traveling during Dec-Mar then warm jackets, thermals, gloves and other warmer clothes might be required.

Is there any direct flight from Kathmandu to Muktinath?

Muktinath Tour by Helicopter is the only option to reach Muktinath directly from Kathmandu. Five and Six seated Helicopter is available for charter. Otherwise, Jomsom is the nearest airport to reach Muktinath from Pokhara.

How is the road condition?

From Kathmandu to Beni for about 306 km and from Kagbeni to Muktinath (12 km), roads are blacktopped and fine whereas from Beni to Kagbeni about 80 km, roads are off-road, the bumpy and frequent landslide occurs during Jun-Sep.
