Annapurna Circuit Trek

18 Days

Raving about the wonders of the Annapurna Circuit trek is like saying the Grateful Dead is your new favorite band. People roll their eyes at your lack of imagination. The central Nepal trek is so well-known that it’s almost cliché. Travelers have been praising the 128-mile route, which circles Nepal’s heaven-high Annapurna range, as the holy grail of trekking since it was first opened to foreigners in the early 1977. Sure, there are treks that are more rugged or more remote, huts that are more luxe, pilgrimage sites that are more holy, wildlife that’s more exotic, and even scenery–sacrilege!–that’s more beautiful.

The Annapurna Circuit is a trek within the Annapurna mountain range of central Nepal. The total length of the route varies between 160–230 km (100-145 mi), depending on where motor transportation is used and where the trek is ended. This 18 days Nepal trekking crosses two different river valleys. The path reaches its highest point at Thorung La pass (5416m/17769 ft), touching the edge of the Tibetan plateau.

Winding through some of the world’s tallest mountains and diverse climatic zones. Enjoying the beautiful hospitality of the Nepalese people and their quaint mountain villages. The 16 days you’ll spend on the Annapurna Circuit Trek are some of the most inspiring and challenging you’ll ever encounter. The arrival back to Pokhara will feel so rewarding.

Like with many of the treks in Nepal, there are certain times of year when the weather conditions are ideal. October and November or April and May are widely considered to be the best times for trekking. The weather during these two seasons is generally clear and dry, and so it’s not too cold when heading into high altitudes. These two seasons are also the busiest times to be on the trail.

How difficult is Annapurna Circuit?

It’s a moderately difficult trek. Trek starts from Besisahar which is around 600 metres in altitude and reaches at maximum altitude of 5416 metres at Thorong La pass.

Can i do the Annapurna Circuit on my own?

No, This trek can be a lifetime adventure for travel enthusiasts. To gain such adventures, you can travel with a guide for this trek. Unlike other restricted regions, trekking to Annapurna Circuit with guide is also possible. However, you need to be extra prepared for the trek alone.

How safe is Annapurna Circuit?

The 5416m Thorung La is one of Nepal’s highest passes and crossing it is potentially dangerous. In terms of altitude acclimatisation it is safest to cross it from east to west. The trek up to the pass from Manang is not difficult but it is a long way at high elevation, which can cause problems.

Is there WiFi on the Annapurna Circuit?

As of November 2019, free WiFi and charging is generally available (with some exceptions) up to Manang on the east side of the pass, and up to Muktinath on the west side of the the pass.

Are there ATMs on the way to Annapurna Base Camp?

No. There are no ATMs on this trek route. You will have to draw enough cash in Pokhara or Kathmandu. There are a number of ATMs in these cities. Everything is paid in Nepali rupees. So money should be exchanged before the start of the trek.

What about internet access?

Yes. Internet can be accessed in most places. Sometimes, there might be some technical problems. Internet in Nepal is not as fast as you are used to and at times you can just lose connection.

Is it necessary to hire Guides/trekking agency for Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

Not really. It depends on you. If you want, ABC trekking can be done independently. You could hire a guide and a porter by yourself instead of going through an agency or not hire a guide at all. Although, not having a guide can be a little problematic during off season.

It really depends on you. Is it your first time in Nepal? How confident are you of being able to find your way around? How pressed on time are you? If you go through an agency, it will be costlier but everything will be planned. You will only have to come, trek and return.

How much do guides and porters cost?

For Annapurna region, pay for guides range from $20 to $30 per day and porters take $15 to $25 per day.
